CINECYCLE

Hidden in a lane behind 129 Spadina Avenue is the coach house of 401 Richmond St, a historic Toronto warehouse with over 140 small cultural and creative businesses is where CineCycle is located. A bike repair shop by day and DIY music venue and underground cinema by night. Founded in 1991 by film and bike lover Martin Heath, it’s been a key part of the Queen West arts scene, known for its experimental and political films.

Though plain on the outside, CineCycle holds a large collection of films, with shelves full of film reels from floor to ceiling. The walls display movie posters and bike art, and a big 9 by 12-foot screen hangs from the ceiling. Besides movie showings, CineCycle hosts live shows, art exhibits, and late-night house, techno, disco, and hip hop parties.
